Intervention Ontario
Intervention is growing in popularity as there is increased awareness of the positive role an intervention can play in the life of someone who has lost control of their life due to addiction to drugs or alcohol. Television has been a pioneer in the field of intervention, producing several documentaries in recent years which showcase families in Ontario who have benefited greatly from a professionally coordinated intervention. Although the positive benefits of intervention are plain to see, the government-funded addiction treatment programs in Ontario do not support them. First of all there tend to be waiting lists for government programs. However, for an intervention to be successful there must be the possibility for immediate intake into a rehabilitation facility. Secondly in order for the province to pay for any health care for any resident, the resident must first demonstrate a willingness to receive said treatment. In spite of the limitations of interventions taking place in Ontario, they happen successfully each and every day.
